The second, revised, and expanded edition of the book Reconstruction of Timber Structures is a practical guide that will lead readers through the pitfalls of repairs and show them safe ways to achieve their goal. This goal is a beautifully and flawlessly restored historical timber house. The book is also an inspiration for specialized construction companies or designers looking for insights into historical construction methods and techniques. They will find guidance on repairing timber structures from initial contemplation, through construction preparation, to solving very specific practical problems. It allows builders to look 'over the shoulders' of craftsmen, and skilled cottage owners will find practical examples of construction methods, many of which they will be able to implement themselves. The publication is exceptionally commendable for its presentation of a considerate approach to the repairs of an important older component of our traditional village buildings. Its author is undoubtedly the only one today who can gather, process, and present material at the appropriate level in the necessary breadth, from a historical perspective on timber structures to well-selected and thoroughly documented examples of repairs and modifications of these buildings.
