Beschreibung
Obsessive-compulsive disorder is a relatively common and usually lifelong mental illness that affects approximately 3% of the population. However, only a portion of those with severe and distressing symptoms typically seek treatment. The authors have been dealing with the treatment and research of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) for several decades. In our conditions, there is a lack of sufficient basic professional literature in the Czech language, which is why they decided to transform their long-term experience into this monograph. The book provides a summary of research on the causes and treatment of OCD over the past forty years and sheds light on the issue from many perspectives: it addresses both biological and psychological or psychotherapeutic viewpoints. Psychotherapeutic approaches are discussed in more detail primarily because they are considered more effective and lasting. The publication is designed to be beneficial for both professionals (psychiatrists, psychologists, general practitioners, counseling workers) and students of these fields, as well as those who suffer from the disorder and their loved ones. Readers can choose information at various levels of expertise according to their needs and possibilities.
