The publication is a comprehensive work discussing diseases of the intestine, with a clear, structured layout divided into a general part and a special part. The general part includes genetics, embryology, anatomy and histology, physiology, and pathophysiology. Further chapters in the general part discuss the intestinal microbiome, very detailed symptomatology, and examination methods. The special part is divided into diseases of the duodenum, small intestine, cecum and Bauhin's valve, appendix, colon, rectum, and anus. Special chapters are dedicated to, for example, ileal states, stomas, intestinal infections, including sexually transmitted and parasitic diseases, AIDS, pregnancy, functional diseases, diarrhea and constipation, bleeding, and abdominal catastrophes. Chapters where it is beneficial contain surgical and pediatric supplements. The team of authors consists of 49 experts from across the Czech Republic, and the book was reviewed by Prof. MUDr. Aleš Hep, CSc., and Prof. MUDr. Jan Wechsler, CSc. This richly illustrated color publication is primarily intended for gastroenterologists, internists, surgeons, pediatricians, and other collaborating specialties.
