Legenda o grálu – von Franz Marie-Louise (2025)

This book offers a depth-psychological interpretation of the medieval legend of the Holy Grail. In a castle that is extremely difficult to find, a king guards a mysterious miraculous vessel that sustains life and provides nourishment. The king is ill and the surrounding land is becoming barren. He can be healed only when an excellent knight finds the castle and, upon seeing what is there, asks a particular question. This is one of the central moments of the medieval Grail legend, which the book examines through psychology, cultural history, religious studies, mythology and literary scholarship. The authors explore the symbolism of the Grail and its relationship to alchemy, Christian mysticism, Celtic myths and fairy tales. They trace the legend’s historical development, its links to Arthurian stories and the archetypal significance of the quest for the Grail as a path to spiritual knowledge. Drawing on the psychological theories of Carl Gustav Jung, the book reveals deeper meanings that the legend holds for modern people. As in medieval alchemy, poetic fantasies connected with Grail symbolism reflect deeply buried unconscious mental processes that remain highly significant today, anticipating the religious problem of the present age.
