Beschreibung

Meetings with C. G. Jung represent a careful selection from a vast number of newspaper articles, diary entries, reports, excerpts from books, and records of discussions featuring C. G. Jung. The oldest piece dates back to 1925, and the youngest is from the early 1960s. The editors of the work also considered which testimonies are more trustworthy – for example, because they are not merely expressions of pious respect for a recognized authority or because they were never published during the author's lifetime. They aim to reflect the personality of C. G. Jung as authentically as possible in the memories of his contemporaries. Among the authors of the texts are, for example, Jung's childhood friend, Jung's students, those interested in his teachings, random visitors to Jung's Bollingen Tower, and people who met Jung on his scientific and study trips or at congresses. For instance, Jung had a conversation with English writer Patricia Hutchins and James Joyce expert about this writer, discussed the possibilities of music therapy with American pianist Margaret Tilly, and debated the then-popular topic of flying saucers with famous American aviator Charles A. Lindbergh. Jung's classmate Albert Oeri recalls that Jung struggled with mathematics and was nicknamed 'Barrel.'
