If you grew up with an emotionally immature, unavailable, or self-centered parent, you may experience anger, emotional loneliness, feelings of betrayal, anxiety, depression, and difficulties in forming relationships in adulthood. It is possible that in childhood, in an effort to serve your parents' needs, you lost touch with your true self and took on the role they required of you. The author describes two main types of individuals based on their response to childhood with emotionally immature parents: externalizers, who leave the responsibility for solving their issues to others, and internalizers, who feel that they must do the work on relationships themselves. The latter tend to be sensitive to the needs of others and strive to work diligently on their personal growth. This book is intended for them, where they will learn how to rid themselves of guilt that does not actually belong to them, how to reconnect with their own needs, and how to recognize people with whom they can feel like themselves.
