Our deep, unconscious fantasies influence our experiences and our actions. Sometimes they prevent us from achieving what we have consciously decided, while at other times they lead us into situations that our rational side rejects. They determine whom we fall in love with and whom we avoid, who and under what conditions will be sexually exciting for us, and who, on the contrary, falls into the 'desperately boring!' category. The unconscious of the relationship is always shaped by the interaction of both partners. If a therapist wants to effectively help a couple or family, they must understand this relational unconscious and the fantasies that govern the relationship. During therapy, they seek the unconscious fantasies that connect the partners or family. From these shared unconscious fantasies arises the so-called 'unconscious relational belief,' which determines how the entire relational system will function – the couple, the family, but also other groups. Based on his more than thirty years of practice, the author presents the roots of fantasies in human development, the fantasy lives of people, their dreams and desires, and ideas about partnerships in the context of modern couple and family psychoanalysis.
