The book deals with the topic of age-heterogeneous and homogeneous classes. What are the advantages of a heterogeneous arrangement? What can be done to fulfill educational goals in them? What should we focus on when working with a heterogeneous group? Age-heterogeneous classes allow for individualized education more easily than homogeneous ones; small groups can be created, and children can be worked with according to their abilities. Younger children also learn better from older classmates and friends than from adults. The teacher acts as a facilitator, offering children a prepared environment and supporting their independence. The authors provide both foreign experiences with heterogeneous class arrangements in kindergartens and examples of good practice from Czech kindergartens. The book also includes research results on the Czech situation in preschool education.
