Beschreibung
The second volume of the book The Story of Czechoslovak Psychology maps the modern history of Czechoslovak psychology through the narratives of its living co-creators. The interviews for the middle volume of this three-part project were provided by Czech doyens of the field born between 1939 and 1948: Karel Balcar, Petr Kulišťák, Jiří Mareš, Jiří Růžička, Vladimír Řehan, Iva Šolcová, Jaroslav Šturma, Marie Vágnerová, and Zdeněk Vtípil. The captivating narratives reveal both the uniqueness of the personalities and the shared problems caused primarily by the political events of 1968 and later during the so-called normalization period, which affected not only the lives of the elders of Czechoslovak psychology but also the realization of their professional interests and ambitions. The interviews with these personalities are supplemented by biographical profiles and spiritual portraits, micro-portraits of reference figures, period documents, and photographs. The testimonies of the doyens are placed within a generational, disciplinary, and temporal framework.
