Beschreibung

As part of the Stanford Historical Society Oral History, recordings of interviews with prominent contemporary psychologist Philip Zimbardo (* 1933) were made in 2017. In them, he recalls his tough childhood during the Great Depression in a poor neighborhood of New York in a family of Sicilian immigrants, his desire to study that took him from these circumstances to college, the beginnings of his psychological practice in a laboratory with animals, and his friendship with Stanley Milgram. He dedicates a large portion to memories of the atmosphere at the university in the 60s and 70s, and the circumstances, course, and consequences of his world-famous Stanford experiment. He also discusses subsequent projects (studying shyness), his involvement in examining prison systems, the Abu Ghraib prison scandal, and his lecturing activities around the world. The book not only offers unique, vividly described, and content-rich memories of a prominent figure in world psychology but also provides a broad insight into the history of the entire field in the 20th century.
