Beschreibung
Most experts in the field of personality disorders agree that the prognosis for treating these patients is primarily influenced by timely and sensitive diagnosis. This guides the subsequent choice of appropriate therapeutic approaches. We present a publication not only to professionals in the field of mental health but also to students of relevant disciplines, offering a path to understanding personality disorders from the perspective of the latest findings in 'evidence-based' diagnostic systems. In this context, we theoretically and practically introduce an alternative model to DSM-5 for personality disorders and point out its connection to O. F. Kernberg's model of personality psychopathology as well as the model for personality disorders in the upcoming ICD-11. Our priority is to find the person hidden behind the symptomatic accompaniment. Therefore, we pay increased attention to defining normal and abnormal personality functioning to understand the diagnostic connections between personality disorders, addiction disorders, and eating disorders.
