Beschreibung
The workbook is intended for preschool children who have difficulties with auditory discrimination. Their speech is less intelligible due to multiple dyslalia, or speech impediment. These children often speak quickly, without auditory control, and cannot correct their own incorrect speech. They do not use sounds they have already learned with a speech therapist. If the ability for phonemic awareness does not develop before the actual reading practice, problems in school often manifest as difficulties in early reading or even an inability to learn to read. Most normally developing children acquire this ability on their own as they learn to read. This does not apply to at-risk children, especially those at risk for specific learning disabilities (SLD). Training language skills significantly improves reading performance, reduces the risk of developing SLD, and, last but not least, improves children's pronunciation, their ability to correct their speech, distinguish similar sounds, and use them appropriately in speech. Mgr. Kateřina Slezáková graduated from the Faculty of Education at Charles University, specializing in special education with a focus on speech therapy and deaf education. She has worked as a clinical speech therapist at the polyclinic in Dobříš, at the Jedlička Institute for the Physically Disabled, and at the polyclinic on Čumpelíkova Street in Prague 8, where she still works.
