Beschreibung
Jung considered his own psychological approach to be his "personal confession," so it is no surprise that his way of discussing masculinity is a means of grappling with his complicated relationship with his own father. He was unable to sufficiently identify with his real father, and thus he confronts masculinity on a metaphorical, internal, archetypal level. Since Jung does not exclusively address the psychology of men in any of his works, editor John Beebe undertook meticulous work to find male themes in Jung's writings, lectures, letters, or interviews. In his anthology, he focuses, for example, on the issue of the male hero as one who seeks to gain conscious independence from the unconscious, instinctual forces represented by the mother. He does not overlook the theme of femininity (anima) in men and masculinity (animus) in women. It includes essays where Jung discusses the father or where he addresses the theme of Logos and Eros, spirit, or the alchemical unification of opposites. The anthology is a significant contribution to the understanding of C. G. Jung's work and a topic that remains highly relevant and appealing to readers today. Afterword by Martin Skála.
