While Charles IV awaits the birth of his son in Nuremberg, fear creeps into the villages surrounding Prague, triggered by numerous discoveries of dead and mutilated women. According to popular opinion, a hellish demon is to blame. At the same time, a mysterious prophet wanders the land, whose words about the imminent end of the world lead people to interpret that everything they do is pointless, and only repentance matters. The "prophet" urges them to abandon their work and spread his words of universal ruin wherever they go. On the emperor's orders, Matouš Rozoumek sets out to track down the murderous creature and the mysterious preacher. Will he succeed in uncovering the monster and the harbinger of dark times?
