Jo has a demanding job and, along with her husband, is raising a teenage daughter, which is becoming increasingly complicated. Just when she finds herself in a phase where worries are piling up and she feels it can't get any worse, her best friend Ginny dies. Against her husband's wishes, Jo decides to take in Ginny's son Victor and raise him as her own. Despite her fears, Jo feels it is her duty: Ginny was a single mother and had no family besides Victor. No one else is there to take care of the teenage boy.
