When Jurij Santacruz witnessed Adolf Hitler's appointment as Chancellor, he could not have imagined how much his life in Berlin would change. He had arrived in the city a few months earlier, having fled from Petrograd with part of his family, escaping the revolution that had suffocated them and taken everything away. Jurij was also bereft of his mother and younger brother, whom the Russian authorities would not allow to leave the country. In Berlin, his sense of justice compels him to defend a young communist who is attacked by a group belonging to Hitler's stormtroopers. That day, he also meets his great love, Claudia. His life takes an unexpected turn, and what was once his main priority – finding his mother and brother – is replaced by a more urgent task: staying alive.
