Hamburg, 1920. The Douglas perfumery has been in existence for ten years. Founders Marie and Anna Carstens want to focus on establishing international contacts, so they hand over the daily operations to their goddaughters Hertha and Lucie Harders. However, the young women expect tough times: the German economy is collapsing under the burden of war reparations, and the number of customers is declining due to inflation. In search of new ideas, Lucie draws inspiration from the exceptional fragrances of the golden twenties in Berlin and New York – but also from love.
