Beschreibung
The journey back loosely follows the author's most famous novel All Quiet on the Western Front from World War I. It tells the story of a generation of boys who, in 1914, left their school desks with naive enthusiasm for the war slaughter, from which only a handful of those who escaped the deadly shells returned completely shattered in spirit and body. Young people, led by their teachers to believe that dying on the battlefield is a sacred duty to the homeland and a matter of personal honor, came to know the true face of senseless killing, and their horrifying experiences from the trenches and memories of fallen friends remained ever alive. This novel is also a brutal indictment and a true depiction of the tragedy of war, which does not kill individuals but mutilates entire generations; for the most terrifying is not the explosion of a shell, but the wounded human heart. The hardest journey is not to the front, but the journey back, the return to a world that no longer exists...
