Beschreibung
Opal Sharp and her siblings suddenly become orphans. However, the situation could still be worse. Three of them – including Opal – fall ill with a disease that took their father. Charlie, the oldest sibling, must make the hardest decision of his life. He knows that the younger children will not survive because they cannot afford a doctor. Therefore, he places his younger siblings in a poorhouse, where they will at least have food and a roof over their heads. But Opal cannot forgive him for that. As Charlie tries to keep the remnants of the family together and earn Opal's forgiveness, he must take increasing risks and ultimately finds himself in trouble with the law and is sent on a convict ship to Australia. When Opal is forced to say goodbye to the last member of her family, she promises that one day she will reunite them all. But is such a promise even possible?
