Cecilia Harcourt finds herself in a difficult life situation. Her brother is severely injured in the war in the colonies, and she suddenly has to take care of herself. It seems she has only two options: remain single and become an old maid, or marry advantageously. Surprisingly, Cecilia chooses a third option – she sets off across the Atlantic, firmly determined to find her brother and heal him. Instead of him, however, she finds his best friend, the handsome officer Edward Rokesby, who is unconscious and desperately needs her help. Cecilia vows to stay with him and save his life, even if it means concocting a little lie. When Edward wakes up after six months, he is more than confused. His memories are very hazy, and when everyone tells him that Cecilia is his wife, he believes it. However, when the truth comes to light, even the new Mrs. Rokesby may face unexpected surprises...
