Kukačky - Moje dítě není moje (2021)

“My child is not mine.” Those words have haunted Martin and Tereza, the young parents of six-year-old Jakub, ever since Karel and Olga, the parents of six-year-old Tomáš, told them that the babies had been switched at the maternity hospital and that the families had taken home the wrong children. No one is prepared for such a situation. You spend six years giving your best to a child you love above all else, only to learn that the child was born to someone else. What should a person do then? What matters more: blood, or the care and love already given to the child? Each of the four parents has a different opinion on how to solve the problem. In time, however, all of them are overcome by the natural desire to meet their own child, get to know them and be with them without hurting the other child. Old grievances and hatreds also enter the picture, making everything even more complicated. This is not only a story about children switched at birth, but also a broader exploration of parenthood. Everyone tries to do the best they can to succeed as a parent, and although they do not always manage it, the story makes clear that a functioning family is the most important thing.
