A translation of the so-called 'handbook', that is, a manual (in our sense, a shortened version) of the world-renowned textbook on anesthesia. This postgraduate publication has advantages over the 'big book' in terms of brevity, clarity, and practicality, and contains all the necessary information for study and practice in the field. The book is recommended and the translation is guaranteed by the committee of the professional society ČSARIM (Czech Society of Anesthesiology, Resuscitation, and Intensive Medicine). The editor of the translation is Prof. MUDr. Vladimír Černý, Ph.D., FCCM, along with a team of our leading experts. The book will be particularly appreciated by anesthesiologists and intensivists, but it is also useful for other related 'borderline' fields in both surgery and internal medicine.
