This Czech-language university textbook of Slovenian is intended for students of Slovenian and Slavic studies, as well as anyone interested in Slovenian culture and literature who wants to learn the Slovenian language. The fifth, updated edition retains the original concept and methodology, while providing a thorough linguistic revision of all eleven lessons in response to developments in the Slovenian language and linguistics. The chapter on basic information about the standard Slovenian language has been expanded, while the chapter on the phonology of standard Slovenian newly explains phenomena concerning the pronunciation of sounds and stress in light of current Slovenian phonetics. Both bilingual dictionaries have also been updated and serve as aids when reading the texts in the reader, which is compiled from original Slovenian texts. The reader introduces the social and functional styles of Slovenian and the use of grammatical forms and structures covered in the individual lessons.
