Beschreibung
The fourth volume concludes the History of the Cistercian Order in Bohemia, 1142–1420, a series published by Karolinum since 1998. Rather than discussing the order by individual monasteries, this final volume summarises knowledge about its various aspects thematically. It examines the Cistercian order’s activities in medieval Bohemia, from the arrival of the first grey monks through the life of the monasteries, liturgy, relations with the secular world, and the monks’ intellectual work to questions concerning monastic economy. Wherever possible, it compares the situation in the Kingdom of Bohemia with developments in other countries. Although this is the fourth part of the series, it can also be read as an independent work on the Cistercian order. As in the preceding volumes, the text is complemented by extensive illustrative material, including approximately 200 photographs and 30 maps, charts, and diagrams. The contents are in Czech.
