The work of Baroque architect Jan Blažej Santini Aichel (1677–1723) is attributed extraordinary significance not only by Czech art historians but also by the broader cultural public, where it gained popularity particularly due to the phenomenon of so-called Baroque Gothic and buildings with symbolic floor plans, which are often naively associated with various mystical, even esoteric meanings. The book attempts to engage in a dialogue with existing interpretations of Santini's work and seeks to answer the question of what the true values of his architecture are in the European context and what are rather the layers of the gradually emerging 'legend of Santini.'
