The book is an exceptional contribution to the debates about the nature of modern society. By focusing on the overlooked contexts of the emergence and development of modern sociology as a tool for interpreting modern society, it responds to the current transformations of the sociological agenda and the new challenges associated with the call for the inclusion of perspectives that have been neglected in the existing canon. The central thesis of the entire book is based on the belief that it is essential to incorporate questions of colonial 'power' and imperial dominance into the sphere of interest of sociology, which has historically been linked to issues of class, gender, and sexuality.
