Beschreibung
This Czech-language book presents a synthesis of the Burgundian polity at the end of the Middle Ages. Alongside parts of northern Italy, it represented Europe’s most important economic centre, one of the wealthiest regions of the Western world, and an environment where written and visual culture flourished on an unparalleled scale. The concept of the Burgundian state moves beyond the established model of a series of biographies of its individual rulers and offers a different perspective from the territorial approach to Burgundian history in the late Middle Ages. Schnerb’s synthesis instead identifies elements of the modern state in late-medieval political entities.
