Beschreibung
What can we actually learn from the preserved programs, scenographic designs, critiques, and comments? Is it possible to reconstruct the form of the direction and its bearer? Brno theater scholar Šárka Havlíčková Kysová utilized the most current information on the issue and its solutions, and thus approached her Wasserbauer monograph with the unusual title Director as a Concept... The effort to employ new methodological approaches led the author to a detailed analysis of the language of sources and the possibilities of how to read them. She presented the director's personality at the intersection of various environments and influences, which she analyzes in detail using a wide range of current insights. From the analysis of sources, she rightly concluded that some existing categories are more complex than they might seem from the expressions of contemporary codifiers. The concept of the opera director as a collection of changing concepts speaks to a truly original method, yet conveys a remarkable image of the atmosphere in Czech theater in the 1950s and 60s.
