Golfová hra v proměnách času - Kapitoly z historie a současnosti českého a světového golfu – Halada Andrej (2017)

This book presents the history and current state of golf in the Czech context, while also exploring its past and development in the wider European context. It is one of the first works in the Czech sphere to examine the subject from an academic perspective. Andrej Halada demonstrates extensive knowledge and a broad range, dividing the subject into six autonomous chapters while also giving them a coherent conceptual framework. The text is factually precise yet stylistically light. The chapters cover the development of golf in Europe from the 1980s to the present, golf at the Olympic Games in 1900, 1904 and 2016, and the history of the Golf Association of Czechoslovakia from 1931 to 1948. Another section comparatively analyses the development of golf and tennis, two “bourgeois” sports, in communist Czechoslovakia between 1948 and 1989. The book also examines the construction of more than one hundred golf courses in the Czech Republic after 1990, including their environmental impact. The final chapter discusses golf broadcasts on Czech television stations. Readable as well as informative, this important contribution may appeal not only to golfers but also to readers who have not yet experienced this gentleman’s game in practice.
