This Czech-language edition presents Jean-Jacques Rousseau’s Discourse on the Origin and Foundations of Inequality Among Men (1755) together with The Social Contract (1762), the core works of his political theory, which profoundly influenced modern political thought and the revolutions of the 18th century. It provides the first complete Czech translation of the Discourse on Inequality, including accompanying texts not previously published in Czech, as well as a new Czech translation of The Social Contract, published more than seventy years after the previous one. Both works are supplemented by extensive commentary that places them in the context of Rousseau’s life and writings as well as the contemporary historical and political setting, helping readers better understand the originality of his thought and its significance today.
