Beschreibung
This novel explores collective guilt, individual fate and repentance, asking how people become responsible for crimes they did not commit and could not prevent. The story takes place in the Czechoslovak borderlands shortly after the Second World War, during the expulsion of the German population. Its central figures are an older Czech man and a young German woman, while the landscape after catastrophe forms another powerful presence. Through a poetic and deeply symbolic novel, Jaroslav Durych confronts the modern age without God and without hope. God's Rainbow is considered one of Durych’s outstanding works.
