This Czech-language publication offers a new perspective on the history of higher education in Olomouc during the 19th century. For the first time, the authors draw not only on domestic archival sources but also on materials from the Austrian State Archive in Vienna to illuminate key moments in the university’s existence, its gradual dissolution and attempts at restoration through to the end of the monarchy. The book places the university’s development in the broader context of reforms in higher education and provides a comprehensive analysis of existing historiography. A unique feature is an extensive collection of biographical profiles of teaching-staff members, unparalleled among Central European universities.
