This Czech-language detective novel follows Alena Strusková, who was born immediately after the end of the Second World War. Her mother was imprisoned in the Terezín ghetto until its liberation and never told her daughter who her father was. After her mother’s death, Alena begins an urgent search for her father’s identity, with certain clues pointing to Germany. One day, however, she disappears without a trace. On closer examination, the circumstances surrounding the inconspicuous woman’s sudden disappearance become increasingly suspicious, and those closest to her begin to fear the worst. The Jewish community therefore hires a private detective who has already proved himself several times in murder investigations to find her.
