Few works are shrouded in such a tantalizing and spicy reading reputation as Boccaccio's Decameron, although it is by no means solely about eroticism, even though that plays a significant role in this book. The range of themes in the Decameron is broad; many incidents existed even before Boccaccio himself, while Petr Vydra penned entirely original stories and merely borrowed the title of the book. However, he further modified it to indicate that his work carries less weight both materially and in significance than the Master's opus magnum. The author's tales do not revolve solely around romantic adventures, although those do occur, but their themes also include various disputes with a criminal undertone or the supernatural. Vydra's heroes are generally not medieval heroes or cunning tricksters (at least not comparable to Boccaccio's), but in the humorous situations they experience, we can smile and say, 'That could happen to me too.'
