Liechtensteins – one of the oldest noble and princely families in Moravia and the Czech lands. Their origins can be traced back to the 11th century in Bavaria. They came to Moravia through the future King Přemysl Otakar and became one of the wealthiest families in Moravia. They left behind many monuments: the Lednice-Valtice area, castles in Mikulov, Valtice, Velké Losiny, and Prague. The Principality of Liechtenstein became one of the richest countries in the world. During World War II, it helped people persecuted by Nazism, yet the property of its citizens in Czechoslovakia was confiscated in 1945. Diplomatic relations between the Czech Republic and Liechtenstein were only restored in 2009.
