Adam is seventeen when a tall, freckled boy named Callum invites him on a first date. Adam falls in love with him almost at first sight, just like he knows from his favorite movies. But when Callum confides in him about his secret, Adam faces a harsh reality that stories never prepared him for. Ben is obsessed with fashion. Due to conflicts with his family, he leaves home and heads to New York to find his brother. For the first time in his life, he feels like he can be himself. However, his new world is more closed off than he thought. Their fates intertwine when Ben accidentally sees the sad Adam sitting by the river. They keep bumping into each other while each is at a different crossroads in life, and the AIDS epidemic is shaking the world of the 90s.
