The Rohans were among the most significant French noble families. From their ranks emerged prominent military leaders and patrons of the arts, four bishops of Strasbourg, and several tutors of royal children. After the outbreak of the French Revolution, they left France and entered the military service of the Habsburgs. In 1820, they purchased Sychrov Castle, which became their main residence. In northern Bohemia, they built an extensive estate, where they supported cultural and industrial development. Prince Kamil Rohan transformed Sychrov into a gem of neo-Gothic architecture. The book 'The Rohans' brings closer both the history of the family in France and the fates of its members settled in Bohemia.
