When little Ruby sees a boy struggling against the wild waves of the ocean, she dives underwater and holds onto his ankle until he drowns. She expects to feel guilt sooner or later, but it never comes. Many years later, Ruby studies psychology and in her thesis, she explores the idea that any feeling of guilt should be treated similarly to having a piece of chocolate during a diet – you already feel bad, so why not eat the whole bar? This is exactly how Ruby approaches killing, until she eventually finds herself in an interrogation room, suspected of four murders.
