Clara lives on a Jamaican island that tourists find fascinating and exotic. However, Clara sees nothing fascinating about it. The truth is, not much happens there, so Clara mostly just eats ripe mangoes, runs in the rain, and visits a secret hideout with her best friend. Clara's life would be completely ordinary if her memory hadn't failed her. She can't remember anything from last summer after a hurricane struck the island. Sometimes fragments of memories return to her, while other times her mom has to remind her of everything. But these memories that others tell her aren't truly hers. And it's not easy to live with the knowledge that you're not like everyone else. However, this summer will be different. There's a new girl in the village that everyone is talking about, and Clara can't wait to meet her.
