With his characteristic ease and great respect for the places depicted, he introduced many world metropolises and other locations to both children and adults – Paris, London, New York, Hong Kong, but also, for example, Australia, the American space base Cape Canaveral, and many more. They gained worldwide fame, and motifs from his illustrations appear on postcards, posters, and utility items. However, Šašek did not limit himself to children's books. In addition to city and country guides, he published other authored books, illustrated numerous titles, and for Radio Free Europe, where he worked in the 1950s as a broadcaster, actor, and illustrator, he later regularly wrote and recorded essays and observations from his travels around the world.
