Beschreibung
The Czernins belong to the Czech noble families that have influenced the history of the Kingdom of Bohemia since the 12th century. They branched out into several lines, of which four still exist today: Hradec, Vinoř, Dymokury, and Vrchlabí (Czernin-Morzin). Personalities such as Count Hermann, Humprecht, Franz Joseph, Jan Rudolf, Eugen Karl, or the brothers Děpold and Humprecht, along with their cousin, RAF pilot Manfred Beckett Czernin, have left an indelible mark on history. The letters of Zuzana Czerninová from the Nedrahovice branch, written in beautiful Czech to her son Humprecht in the 17th century, remain captivating to this day. Traces of the Czernins can also be found in the Czech landscape, whether it be the castle and beautiful park in Krásný Dvůr, the hunting castles of Humprecht, Kozel, or Jemčina, the castles of Chudenice and Chudenice-Lázeň, Petrohrad, Vrchlabí, and Dymokury, or one of the pearls of high baroque in Prague – the Czernín Palace. Their traces can also be found on Sněžka and other places in the Krkonoš mountains. The book Czerninové. Nezahyneš ani ohněm, ani mečem offers a comprehensive overview of the history and legacy of the Czernin family, information and portraits of its most significant personalities, family trees, descriptions of coats of arms, and an overview of their most important castles, chateaus, and palaces.
