The collective monograph Literary Landscapes of Bratislava. The Image of the City After 1918 is unique in its focus and, in a sense, pioneering. A ten-member author collective presents the results of research on the literary image of Bratislava, creating and interpreting a catalog of its key topos within a time frame of approximately one century, during which the Slovak metropolis underwent significant political, ethnic, and cultural changes. The literary image of Bratislava has not yet stabilized around a canonical core of several fundamental authors and texts, as is the case with some other European cities closely associated with the work or biography of a famous writer. It remains heterogeneous and fragmentary, still more of an unfinished mosaic. However, in the literary landscapes of this city, several spatial constants and key literary topos related to Bratislava's border geographical, cultural, and linguistic position, as well as its political and urban history, can be well identified. The book provides a systematic and contemporary, albeit not encyclopedically exhaustive, treatment of the literary landscape of Bratislava.
