Gödelův důkaz – Nagel Ernest (2024)

In the book Gödel's Proof, Ernest Nagel and James R. Newman offer a readable and uniquely accessible explanation of the main ideas and implications of Gödel's discovery, free of special symbolism. The book was first published in 1958 and has been reissued time and again – Czech is the eleventh language into which it has been translated. Nagel and Newman's popular and influential work provides the educated reader with an interest in mathematics, logic, and philosophy the opportunity to understand a proof that is otherwise difficult and inaccessible. In the latest edition, this now-classic work has been reviewed and updated by Pulitzer Prize winner Douglas R. Hofstadter. He has removed ambiguities, clarified arguments, and made the text even more accessible. He added an introduction where he reveals his relationship with this book and the influence it had on his professional growth, explains the essence of Gödel's proof, and shows how and why this proof remains important today. The current edition is newly expanded with an afterword by Alexander Meduna (FIT VUT) titled "Brno Native Kurt Gödel and His Legacy." The book is intended for students, scholars, teachers, as well as professionals in mathematics, cybernetics, logic, philosophy, and the natural sciences.
