Beschreibung
In 1899, the Czech Technical University was founded in Brno as the first Czech university in Moravia. It built upon the high professional level established by the Czech-German Technical School founded in 1849, where many prominent scientists, including the renowned Victor Kaplan, were active at that time. The Czech Technical University has undergone incredible development, having been on the brink of extinction several times, yet it always managed to build upon its previous foundation and maintained its continuity. Just as in its early days, the VUT in Brno remains an important center of education and science today, influencing higher education and scientific policy. It is therefore fortunate that we now have a book in our hands that allows us to recall both the glorious and painful moments from the history of the Czech Technical University in Brno, from its inception to the present day. The author is Jiří Pernes, who has been studying the history of VUT in Brno for many years and agreed a few years ago to prepare a new account of the history of the first Czech university in Moravia. He has taken on this role with the rich expertise of a historian, combined with the ability to present facts in a readable and engaging manner, and thus we have in our hands a relatively extensive 'Chapters from the History of the Czech Technical University in Brno'...
