The publication presents the fates of some prominent academics of the university. The text complements the MUNI100 exhibition about the lives of personalities who have inscribed themselves into the history of the university not only through their contributions to its establishment but also through their relationships with students or their world-renowned scientific work. Alongside the 'founding fathers,' it includes giants of scientific fields, beloved teachers, individuals with troubled fates, and controversial academics. The diverse fates thus map the equally diverse twentieth century, from wartime years, through the communist era, to the present day. The personalities were selected to reflect the three fundamental roles of the university: teaching, research, and extension, which is a kind of outreach to the public. Through the careful selection of personalities, a hundred years of existence of Masaryk University is summarized.
