Beschreibung
The book primarily focuses on the psychological perspective of mathematical knowledge and skills, emphasizing the possibilities of measuring them. It thoroughly analyzes mathematical thinking from psychometric, cognitive, cultural, and educational viewpoints. It addresses, for example, the differences between men and women, the causes of incorrect solutions, neuropsychological processes responsible for processing numerical information, and their relationship to linguistic naming. In addition, it presents an overview of tests for mathematical abilities and skills currently available in the Czech Republic. The theoretical overview is supplemented by an elaboration of selected aspects of the psychometric Rasch model, and I also present the results of my own research testing a selected hypothesis concerning the "cognitive prerequisites" for higher mathematical reasoning.
