The publication addresses the question of the development of ceramic production in South Moravia, focusing on the Lower Podyjí region, from the fall of the Great Moravian Empire to the beginning of the High Middle Ages. Using examples from the ceramic collection from the Kostice – Zadní hrúd site, the book aims to create a more detailed chronological-typological scheme for the classification of ceramics from the 10th century to the early 13th century. Kostice – Zadní hrúd is among the most valuable and well-researched sites from this period currently available in Moravia, contributing to the resolution of more general questions. The significance of this commercial-craft agglomeration lies particularly in its unique spectrum of finds, among which a substantial collection of coins stands out. With the help of various methodological approaches, especially multivariate statistics, the book clarifies the character of ceramic production in the problematic period immediately following the fall of Great Moravia, often referred to as the 'dark' 10th century due to insufficient knowledge.
