The book addresses the topic of motivation to learn German, set in the context of teaching foreign professional and academic language. Theoretically, the work is primarily based on Gardner's theory of motivation, self-determination theory, and attribution theory. The research was conducted in the environment of foreign professional and academic language teaching at Masaryk University in Brno, where students of all non-philological fields are required to pass an exam in one foreign professional and academic language as part of their studies. The research design consisted of quantitative and qualitative phases. A comparison of the results of both research phases demonstrated agreement in almost all created motivational identifiers, with the motivation of relevance proving to be absolutely fundamental for the motivation to learn professional and academic German.
