Are the media to blame, or is our deafness to ecological problems rooted in our mental makeup, which tries to repress unpleasant realities? The author is interested in why some people remain loyal to nature. She seeks answers on sociological, philosophical, psychological, and theological levels. However, the book also surprises readers with an unexpected question: why protect nature at all when it can take care of itself; it is not weak, but strong and cruel.
