Beschreibung
This is a critical edition of the Apologia, a Latin work by the Hussite nonconformist Mikuláš of Dresden from 1415, in which he responded to the ban on the lay chalice, one of the most prominent symbols of the Hussite movement. The edition, complete with a textual-critical apparatus, includes a partial study on the genetic relationships of the surviving manuscripts, an analysis of the structure of the work, and an exploration of its sources, which place the published text in its meaningful context. As a result of making medieval manuscript material accessible, the book is primarily intended for researchers dealing with the history of the early Czech Reformation; due to its critical apparatus, it will find users not only among historians but also among philologists, linguists, lawyers, and theologians.
